Summer Mission 2012

The first week of the school summer holidays was a time of fun, messiness, and mission in St. Andrew’s Church hall as the Scripture Union Mission 2012 took place. There are some photos above, or you can view the full photo album. Have a look for the ones which feature the minister getting covered in beans, and shaving foam. Who says it’s not hard work?

This year, for the first time, there was a youth club held on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings. Primarily for the younger helpers and leaders at the mission, friends were also welcome. We had great fun, getting to know one another a bit better, playing some silly games, and reflecting on how doing God’s work impacts on our faith and life, both personally, and as part of a team.

It may have started a bit overcast, and the coats stayed on, but only for a little while. It wasn’t long before the sun came out, the food arrived and a lot of fun was had.

Many thanks to everyone for coming along and making the afternoon so good. And a special ‘thank you’ to everyone who contributed to the preparation, cooking, and clearing up. Your work was much appreciated.

Oathlaw Tannadice Jubilee Fete June 2012

Maybe it wasn’t the very best of the weather, but it was dry enough to attract a good turnout of members and friends to the Oathlaw Tannadice Jubilee Fete. The home baking disappeared pretty quickly but there were cream teas, burgers, pancakes, and many other goodies available.

Entertainment, apart from the Scouts’ games and the like, came in the form of Brechin Silver Band, who played most excellently in the church.

Then it was time for the duck race, and the burn was suddenly awash with a flotilla of yellow ducks and a few able duck wranglers to make sure they made it to the finish.

There were also plenty of prizes to be won, and there were a few groans when it was announced that the minister had the correct guess for the mystery whisky.

Check out the slideshow above, or the photo gallery from the afternoon.

The amount raised for church funds will be announced as soon as it’s available.

Easter Services 2012

Kirriemuir: St. Andrew’s and Oathlaw Tannadice churches are hosting a number of services over the Easter period, and we would be very pleased to welcome you to any or all of them.

On Thursday the 5th of April, there will be a Maundy Thursday service, at 7pm, in Tannadice church. This service begins with some hymns and readings, before everyone sits down to a simple supper which moves into an informal communion.

On Good Friday, the 6th of April, Kirriemuir: St. Andrew’s will be hosting a Tenebrae service. Tenebrae is Latin for ‘shadows’ or ‘darkness’ and this, more sombre, service takes place in a dimmed, candlelit church as we reflect on the momentous events of Jesus’ crucifixion and burial.

Then on Sunday the 8th, you are welcome to join us at either Oathlaw Tannadice at 9.45, or Kirriemuir: St. Andrew’s at 11.15, as we celebrate the risen Christ on Easter morning. Both of these service will be family-friendly as there will be no Sunday Schools, the leaders taking a well-deserved break.
